ISTEDLØVEN
Emblematic statue commemorating the victory of Danish forces at the Battle of Isted in 1850.
Istedløven, also known as the Lion of Isted, is an emblematic statue commemorating the victory of Danish forces in the 1850 Battle of Isted, which pitted Denmark against the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein. It was sculpted in 1862 by the Danish sculptor Herman Wilhelm Bissen. It represents an imposing bronze lion, 4 meters long and weighing 30 tons. The Lion has become a symbol of Danish identity and the struggle for independence. The park in which it stands is also well worth a visit!
