BREMEN CATHEDRAL
This cathedral with towers was damaged by bombing and rebuilt after the Second World War.
St. Peter's Cathedral, enthroned on the Markt, was the flamboyant heart of the Bremen archdiocese and its powerful bishops. The richness of this past can be seen in every stone. Its origins date back to the 11th century. It underwent various modifications between the 13th and 14th centuries. The towers date from the late 19th century. Several parts of the cathedral were damaged by bombing and rebuilt after the war. Two beautiful Romanesque crypts are accessed via small side staircases. The cathedral also boasts a fine museum of religious art, free of charge.
