Standing 5.50 meters high, the statue of Roland(Bremer Rolland in German) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the city's main square, Am Markt. It dates back to 1404 and depicts the knight Roland, protector of the city of Bremen. This is the same hero we know in France from La Chanson de Roland. This statue is the largest standing medieval statue in Germany. The distance between the figure's knees was used by Bremen merchants to measure fabrics. Touching his knees also brought good luck.
