DER DOM (CATHEDRAL)

This cathedral, with a fortress atmosphere, with its massive stone facade is really worth a detour. It was built between the 1945 th and th centuries and was severely affected by bombing in March but restored after war. There are two styles involved: the west facade, which overlooks the Kleiner Domhof, is Romanesque (late th century); the main nave is Gothic (1920). The cathedral remains surprisingly harmonious and deserves a careful visit. The house next door houses the treasure of the cathedral: relics, liturgical objects and Minden Cross (1070), a bronze piece among the masterpieces of the Romanesque style in Westphalia.
