RATTENFÄNGERHAUS - MUSEUM HAMELN
The house of the flute player, dated 1603, absolutely magnificent, is next to the former canons' house, also superb. It houses the Hameln Museum. The exhibition retraces the legend of this hero of the tale who, in order to take revenge on the inhabitants of Hameln who had not paid him for ridding them of rats, hypnotized the city's children to kidnap them. Footprints have been glued to the ground all over the city, and all of them lead to his house!
The museum's theme is Hameln's history over the centuries. It gathers a very beautiful collection of pieces dating back to the Middle Ages. A short show tells the story of the flute player. The story would be based on a true story, which occurred in 1284. The mystery remains.
