ALTSTADT - OLD TOWN
The old town is well worth a visit. We are all the more surprised because the surroundings of the station, if we arrive by train, are less pleasant.
Among the superb half-timbered houses is the Marktkirche church, the oldest part of which dates from the 12th century; the beautiful Hochzeitshaus (wedding house), built in 1610-1617 in the Renaissance style of the Weser, is marked by its carillon.
Hameln's entire attraction is therefore focused on the famous tale of the flute player. In pedestrian streets, the image of the rat or mouse can be seen in all its forms. Charming plush blankets, key chains, gourmet dishes, larger effigies, made of wood, stone, printed on bags and aprons, and a whole range of souvenirs: these effigies are all much more charming than the animal that inspired so many craftsmen.
