USINE FAGUS
Built in the early 1910s and listed as a historical monument since 1946, the Fagus factory south of Hanover is a superb example of early 20th-century industrial architecture by Walter Gropius. The site is still in operation, but can be easily visited on guided tours held three times a week. It's a fascinating journey through the buildings, which were conceived as a line of production facilities. The glass roofs are a particular feature of this site, whose aesthetic is a prelude to the emergence of the Bauhaus.
