Artificial lake created in 1934-1936 with a controversial column and sculpture on the former marshland.
This artificial lake was created between 1934 and 1936, on the site of a former marshland area. This project, already on the city's agenda during the Weimar Republic (1918-1933), was taken up by the Nazis, combining the cult of major works, the happiness of the people through work, healthy entertainment and patriotic art. The controversial column and sculpture on the lakeshore are a reminder of this period: at the base of the column, the threatening eagle of Germany, and the empty circle adorned with the swastika.
