DER SCHLOSSBERG - / SCHLOSSMUSEUM
Splendid fortified complex in Quedlinburg, with superb views over the town and a museum retracing its history.
This splendid fortified complex perched on a sandstone cliff is at least a thousand years old. The dominating Romanesque basilica dates from 1129. It is the Church of St. Servatius, one of the largest Romanesque basilicas in the former East Germany. The interior has been extensively remodeled in Gothic style. The church also contains a treasure chamber. The representative buildings and castle surrounding St. Servatius are mostly Renaissance.
