This cathedral in Aachen was Charlemagne's final resting place and his tomb in 814.
Witness to thirteen centuries of Christianity in Northern Europe, the cathedral was the brainchild of Charlemagne. His idea was to create a sacred center for his empire. St. Mary's was built in the last years of the 8th century, combining Byzantine and ancient architectural styles. In 814, the cathedral became Charlemagne's final resting place, and his tomb can still be seen there. In 1978, it became the first German monument to be recognized by Unesco.

Bruisse encore des pas du grand Charlemagne, premier Empereur d'Occident. A ne pas manquer, d'autant qu'une belle brochure explicative en français est proposée gratuitement..
