The treasure of Aachen Cathedral is the richest north of the Alps! These objects represent 1,200 years of history. The most famous, the shrine of the Virgin Mary, contains sacred relics. We'll also see the bust of Charlemagne and the sarcophagus that contained the great emperor's bones. The Cross of Lothaire, with its precious stone ornaments and cameo depicting a portrait of Emperor Augustus, will also be admired.

Complément indispensable de la visite de la cathédrale, celle du trésor, situé sur une petite place à côté de l'édifice religieux. Châsses et reliquaires rivalisent de finesse, de l'or, de l'argent, des pierres précieuses, un buste de Charlemagne contenant le sommet de son crâne (invisible, mais par contre, des ossements apparaissent nettement dans d'autres reliquaires) . Le tombeau de marbre blanc racontant en relief l'enlèvement de Proserpine contenait jadis la dépouille de l'empereur. Ces objets de grande qualité, éblouissants même, sont mis en valeur par un éclairage judicieux. Vraiment une visite incontournable
