NOTRE-DAME CHURCH
Old Gothic church built between 1235 and 1260 on the site of a Roman basilica in Trier.
The Church of Our Lady of Trier adjoins the cathedral and can be seen from the cloister. Built between 1235 and 1260 on the foundations of a Roman basilica, it is one of the oldest Gothic churches in Germany. Its Greek cross floor plan and richly decorated west portal are just some of the reasons to linger over this church. The 15th-century interior frescoes are painted on twelve pillars symbolizing the apostles. In 1986, the church was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the cathedral and the city's Roman remains.
