The interior is extremely rich, and the ceiling paintings by Augsburg master Christophe Thomas Scheffler are not to be missed. Stucco also decorates walls and ceilings. The high altar is a masterpiece from the workshop of Ferdinand Tietz, the famous German Rococo sculptor. The basilica is the successor to an earlier church whose foundations date back to the 4th century.
