THE RHINE MUSEUM IN TRIER
A museum featuring some very fine sections of ancient art, such as mosaics and sculptures, as well as a collection of porcelain.
The Landesmuseum, located in the extraordinary area that includes the Aula Palatina and the castle of the prince electors, combines Roman stone and glass walls. Opposite the entrance, a staircase leads to a promontory offering a beautiful view of the princely gardens. Here, you can admire pieces of rare beauty, including the almost intact Bacchus mosaic and the mosaics from the procurator's palace (dating from around 200 AD). Among the sculptures, the famous boat found in Remagen is the earliest known representation of a load of wine.
