Well-preserved ruins of a château-fort built in the late century and destroyed by French troops in 1689.
Situated high above Cochem are the well-preserved ruins of a castle. Built in the late 13th century, Winneburg Castle was owned by the Lords of Winnenberg until 1637. In 1689, during the Palatinate War of Succession, the castle was besieged and destroyed by French troops. From then on, the building remained in ruins. You can reach the castle via an attractive, accessible hiking trail of around two kilometers.
