HOUSE OF GOETHE
Beautiful bourgeois house housing a museum that collects the works of Goethe and organizes temporary exhibitions.
This beautiful 18th-century bourgeois house shows the wealth of the Goethe family. The most moving room, the great writer's study, is on the second floor. Portraits of the poet hang on the walls, as does a profile of Charlotte Buff. She was the inspiration for Les Souffrances du jeune Werther, a work that drove hundreds of young people to suicide and was, at the time, what we would call a bestseller today. In the other part of the house, a museum exhibits Goethe's work and organizes temporary literary exhibitions.
