SENCKENBERG NATURMUSEUM
Museum housing one of Europe's most important fossil collections, as well as a large collection of stuffed animals.
Founded in the 18th century at the request of the physicist Senckenberg, this museum houses one of Europe's most important collections of fossils. Alas, most of these are casts - the originals are well hidden away! On the second floor, a large collection of stuffed animals catches the eye. A small room on the first floor explains the birth and evolution of the museum. We learn that the eminent naturalist Gœthe was one of its benefactors. The museum is associated with two other Senckenberg museums in Germany, in Dresden and Görlitz.
