HEINRICH HEINE INSTITUTE
Manuscripts, letters, portraits, archives and mortuary of the great German writer and poet from the first half of the th century, the son of the city. A symbol of tolerance and francophilie, which was not always well seen by his compatriots, Heinrich Heine is today a symbol of the ideal of enlightenment, freedom and freedom of thought in Germany. Jewish, liberal and progressive, it had to be his life as a public man to confront the virulence of his enemies, anti-Semitic and nationalist. In literary terms, he was one of the first authors to give his letters of nobility to the German vernacular, that of the people. He would popularize the kind of paper and the story of travel.
