HOHENZOLLERN BRIDGE
This bridge of love links the towns of Cologne and Deutzse, allowing lovers to attach padlocks to the walls.
Like many cities, Cologne also has its love bridge. Lovers have attached padlocks to its walls. Often the names or initials of the lovers are engraved and the key is thrown away to demonstrate the indestructibility of their love. The custom of attaching padlocks to this Cologne bridge was created in late summer 2008. Since then, the number has grown considerably. In 2011, there were 40,000 padlocks, but today, the number is probably eight times higher. The bridge, which connects the cities of Cologne and Deutzse, consists of 340 railing sections, with mesh fencing, providing an ideal space for padlock attachment. Each section has between 800 and 1,200 padlocks. Therefore, a good estimate could be 340,000 padlocks in total
