BASILICA OF THE HOLY APOSTLES
A harmonious-looking church with two turrets on the road to Aachen in front of the Roman ramparts.
The Basilica of the Holy Apostles is one of twelve Romanesque churches in Cologne. Of particular interest is the beautiful triconical choir, topped by two turrets, dating from 1200. The rest of the building we see today dates from the 11th century. At that time, the church was on the road to Aachen. In the 13th century, the church was considerably enlarged. It was at this time that the octagonal dome was added, giving the building its monumental, almost Byzantine appearance.
