CHOCOLATE MUSEUM

This is the most visited private museum in Cologne! You will know everything, everything, everything about cocoa production, its place in the cultural history of America's pre-Columbian and Europe (from the eighteenth century to today), and on the marketing of industrial chocolate since the nineteenth century… Hans Imhoff, the manufacturer of passionate chocolates, had a longstanding dream: open a chocolate museum with a chocolate fountain with endless stream. On October 31, 1993, after a 13-month construction period, the chocolate museum was opened. It became a triumph of the history of German museums that nobody thought possible. With approximately 600,000 visitors per year, this is the most visited cultural institution in Cologne. The past world history of cocoa and chocolate is described in detail over 4,000 m ². The diversity of the 5,000 years of cocoa cultural history is illustrated, as is the production of modern chocolate from the cocoa bean to chocolate Pralineous confectionery. A panoramic palm tree, information about the natural history of cocoa, exhibitions on pre-Columbian cultures in Central America, a large collection of porcelain and baroque silver objects and a multitude of historical machines dating back to the industrialization period await visitors. In glass-walled production facilities and in the chocolate manufacturing workshop, visitors can discover how chocolate products are made mechanically and manually. The mark of the museum: the chocolate fountain is three meters high and is continuously fed by 200 kg of Lindt fresh chocolate. Hans Imhoff's dream has finally become reality!
