ELIZABETH'S DOOR
Gate built by Frederick V for his wife Elisabeth Stuart in 1615, with a dedication at the castle entrance, according to legend.
According to legend, in 1615 Frederick V, who was very much in love with his wife Elizabeth Stuart, had the Elizabeth Gate built in a single night in honor of his wife. Above the arch of the gate is the dedication "to my beloved wife". The gate is found near the entrance of the castle, standing solidly on its four elaborate columns. Today, this work is considered the first construction of Heidelberg Castle in the Baroque style.
