OLD BRIDGE
A 200-metre-long old bridge over the Neckar, linking the Old Town with the Neuenheim district and offering superb panoramic views.
"Seen from here, this bridge is of such beauty that no other bridge in the world can possibly match it", Goethe wrote in 1797. Hölderlin and Keller also devoted entire lines to the old Heidelberg bridge. It was built by Elector Karl Theodor in the 18th century. Better known as the Alte Brücke, it spans the Neckar, linking the old town to the Neuenheim district. Constructed of sandstone, it features nine spans and is 200 meters long. It offers superb views of the old town and castle.
