WORMS CATHEDRAL
Imperial Rhenish cathedral in red sandstone, built between 1130 and 1181 in the late Romanesque style of Worms.
St. Peter's Cathedral in Worms is the smallest of the three Rhenish imperial cathedrals, a hundred years younger than the cathedrals of Speyer and Mainz. The building, recognizable by its red sandstone exterior, was mostly constructed between 1130 and 1181. It is a remarkable example of late Romanesque architecture. Gothic and Baroque additions were added later. A tour of the exterior reveals four round towers and two large domes. Inside, note the choirs at either end of the building.
