OLD CASTLE
Old castle with inner courtyard, round towers, equestrian statue of Duke Eberhard im Bart and bronze bell.
From a simple stable in the 10th century, the old castle developed and became the residence of the counts and dukes of Wurtemberg in 1321. It acquired its present appearance in the 16th century, and again after the war, after being destroyed in 1944. Its perfectly round towers and Renaissance-style inner courtyard are superb; the equestrian statue of Duke Eberhard im Bart and an enormous bronze bell from 1550 stand there. The castle houses the Landesmuseum Württemberg, the region's main museum for history and art history.
