KARLSRUHE CASTLE
The castle was commissioned by Margrave Karl Wilhelm and completely destroyed during the Second World War.
Built in 1715 at the request of Margrave Karl Wilhelm, the castle was the starting point for the development of the fledgling city of Karlsruhe. In 1754, it was extended by two curved wings (which gave the city its fan shape) in Baroque style, according to plans by Neumann. But the castle didn't survive the Second World War; it was completely burnt down and destroyed. Its post-war reconstruction (1955-1956) followed the original exterior plans, but the interior is modern! Today, it houses the Badische Landesmuseum.
