E-WERK
The cultural center takes its name from the building in which it is housed, a former power station with typical 1900s architecture. Founded in 1989, the association now has around a hundred members. The center hosts over 400 performances in the fields of dance, theater, music and visual arts. From small local projects to large international troupes, diversity and multiculturalism are the order of the day. A champion of a young, innovative cultural scene, the venue is also home to numerous artists, with 30 permanent workshops, the Bewegungs-art für Neuen Tanz dance school, the Fribourg theater school, the Jazz & Rock school, the "Die Schönen" musical theater, and more recently the Südufer. If you're on a tight budget, you'll find that many services are free of charge, thanks to the unstinting support of the City of Freiburg and the State of Baden-Württemberg.
