KONNOPKE IMBISS
Under the U2 underground line, it is probably the best and most famous of the Prenzlauer Berg and Berlin Currywürste.
This Imbiss opened in 1960 under the tracks of the aerial subway: it was then the first time that Germans could eat a currywurst in East Berlin. Max Konnopke, an illustrious sausage seller who began his career in 1930, drew the plans for this rather designer little shack himself. It was impossible to escape from a small queue, at any time of the day, for the mythical currywurst (sausage with curry sauce). To be eaten with chips, on a high table, elbow to elbow with a worker covered in paint and an executive in a navy blue suit.
