This church has preserved a fresco depicting a danse macabre performed after the plague.
The Marienkirche, built in the 13th and redesigned in the 18th century, is one of the few surviving medieval buildings in Berlin. It seems a little lost in the middle of the main streets of the district. Inside, it preserves a fresco of 1484 depicting a dance of death (Totentanz), probably made after a plague epidemic. Time has done its work, but you can still see clergymen, peasants and the emperor. In the face of death, all are equal.

Très jolie église que l'on aperçoit depuis la tour télé (ce qui nous a donné envie de la visiter). La façade ne laisse pas du tout deviner l’intérieur, très différent, car particulièrement clair ! A voir !

Une église classique, comme il y en a plusieurs à Berlin. Celle-ci a toutefois l'air assez ancienne et semble avoir assez bien survécu aux bombardements... Bon état général
The holy church Marie is the second oldest church in Berlin after Saint Nicolas. Rebuilt in 1405, the façade very simple, bare and has a beautiful brick architecture. Langhans softened austere appearance of construction by adding the green pinnacle to the top of the tower, quite massive it should be recognised. Let us note the fine bronze doors blends in 1970 by Achim Kühn. The reason non figurative? is to be said nonexplicit. You can just see that are bronze castings with the shape of waves. Then, it is your imagination to work. Inside, you will discover above all 'the dance of the dead', a frieze 22 metre dating back to 1484 and rediscovered in 1860. This theme is popular in the Middle Ages, show with faithful the short-lived character of the life and the? equality all in front of death. The 27 figures forming the round recognize themselves with their costume. You will recognise ecclesiastics, from the simple priest to the pope, and laymen, since the peasant to the emperor. Note that death fixed the spectator, forcing you think of its case. An educational work served good for the faithful illiterate.
