This church was one of the first gathering places during the peaceful revolutions that led to the fall of the Wall in 1989. At the time, political meetings were forbidden, so the protesters decided to meet in churches, the only real places of expression possible in Berlin. It was there that Mahnwachen, peaceful vigils were held to demand the release of political prisoners. The building has an elegant brick facade with Romanesque and Gothic elements.
