NIKOLAIKIRCHE (SPANDAU)
Church in the heart of Spandau's old town, where Elector Joachim II converted to Protestantism in 1539.
This small church of St. Nicholas in the heart of the old town of Spandau is the site of a decisive event for the Brandenburg Electorate. It was here that Elector Joachim II (whose statue stands in front of the church) converted to Protestantism in 1539. A painting on the right after the entrance commemorates this conversion. Take the opportunity to take a walk through the neighbourhood. Although it was badly hit by the bombings of the Second World War, it still retains its medieval layout and can be discovered without displeasure.
