SCHLOSS SCHÖNHAUSEN
Baroque castle featuring rooms refurbished in the 1950s, such as the study and apartment for distinguished guests.
Schönhausen Castle is unique in that it was both the summer residence of Prussian Queen Elisabeth Christina in the 18th century and the presidential palace in the early years of the GDR between 1949 and 1960. Thus, Schönhausen still has two faces today: a baroque castle with rooms that were refurbished in the 1950s. You can visit the office of Wilhelm Pieck - the first and last president of the GDR - and see the apartment for distinguished guests in the East German republic.
