JAGDSCHLOSS GRUNEWALD
A hunting lodge, now home to a collection of paintings linking art, religion and power.
This hunting castle, situated on a lake in the Grunewald forest, dates from the 16th century. Elector Joachim II of Brandenburg had this Renaissance-style building built as a base for his hunting excursions into the forest. Today, the castle houses an important collection of paintings by the two Lucas Cranachs (father and son), which takes us back to a time when art, religion and power were intimately linked: you will see scenes from the Passion, the Old Testament and official portraits of Joachim II and his family.
