BERLIN STORY BUNKER
The 3,000 m² museum now houses two exhibitions, one on the history of the Führer and the other on Berlin.
Adjacent to the Anhalter Bahnhof (former Anhalt railway station), where you can contemplate the remains of a period facade, the Berlin Bunker Story takes you on a journey back in time. As a result of the Royal Air Force's military campaigns, Hitler decided to build bunkers across the country, particularly in Berlin. This one, completed in the spring of 1942, could provide shelter for over 5,000 people on 5 levels. Today, the 3,000 m² bunker houses two exhibitions: "Hitler, How could it happen?" and "Berlin Story Museum".
"Hitler, How could it happen?" begins with the history of the Führer, his youth in Austria, the shock of the First World War, the various stages of his rise to power and, above all, the massacres throughout Europe for which he was responsible. While the somewhat racy name of the exhibition and the reconstruction of a room in the Führerbunker raise questions, the documentation is exemplary and the message unequivocal. The photos and texts are carefully crafted, and there's no room here for frivolous theories. Hitler's bunker, which stood a stone's throw from the Chancellery, was demolished in 1947 to prevent the site from becoming a place of pilgrimage. The bunker also houses a smaller exhibition on the history of Berlin. All the milestones that have shaped the city are recounted via audio guides. In its store, the Story Bunker has a large collection of highly illustrated books on a wide variety of aspects of Berlin's history.
