MUSEUM BOX
Museum with a collection of Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine art, as well as sculptures from the Christian era.
Rarely does the Bode Museum appear on the list of Berlin's must-see attractions, yet it is one of the most beautiful museums. In a sumptuous building in Wilhelmian style, you will find many works of art from the Christian world, from Germany, Italy or Egypt (Coptic art). There is also a magnificent collection of the artist Donatello, including the famous Pazzi Madonna. African art also finds its place there with sculptures and masks, sometimes compared with European art. The museum has 3 distinct collections.
The sculpture collection extends from the Middle Ages to the 18th century and includes many works by Italian sculptors such as Della Robbia, Canova, Donatello and Mino da Fiesole. The museum also presents very beautiful German, French and Flemish works, ivory and wooden sculptures, religious sculptures, portraits...
The collection of Byzantine art presents a fine sample of early Christian to post-Byzantine art, including a magnificent collection of works of art from all over the Mediterranean world. Icons, statuettes, engravings and sculptures make up this collection, which is unique in Germany.
Finally, the collection of medals, originally made up of those of the Prince Electors, comprises more than 500,000 pieces and is one of the largest in the world. The collection of medals, originally made up of the coins of the electorate, is one of the largest in the world and includes a fine series of antique coins from the earliest days of minting, as well as almost 25,000 medals.
