PARK SANSSOUCI
Park featuring numerous monuments such as the château, gardens, Chinese tea house, statues, Orangerie...
It was Friedrich Wilhelm II, nephew of Frederick II, who initiated the development of Sanssouci Park, in a style radically opposed to the building itself. Make the most of your visit to one of Europe's most beautiful parks: start at Sanssouci Castle and walk down the cascading gardens to the large fountain. Then follow the stream to the Chinesisches Teehaus (Chinese teahouse), with its fabulous architecture and magnificent gilded sculptures. Return to the stream and continue left to reach the Roman baths (Römische Bäder), an imitation Roman villa built by Schinkel and Persius. Behind this homage to Antiquity, you'll find Schinkel's nod to pure Renaissance features in the Schloss Charlottenhof, featuring reproductions of classical statues. On your left, take the path through flowering meadows to the Neues Palais. Although it lacks the prestige of its neighbor, the New Palace is well worth a visit, if only for the slippers you'll have to put on at the entrance. From here, take the park's enormous main avenue. After a kilometer, you'll look up on your left to discover the immense Orangerie, whose architecture is reminiscent of the finest palaces in Tuscany. Follow the narrow streets around the Historische Mühle (historic mill) back to Château de Sanssouci. Come between May and October, as many monuments are closed between November and April.
