The most relaxing week of my life!
My stay at Jnane Tamsna was beautiful and surpassed my previous stay at a riad in the Medina by miles! Only a short drive from all the best spots in Marrakech, the hotel was like a secret paradise and a familiar home at the same time. The beautiful gardens and heated pools were an awesome way to start and end my days. My room had that home away from home feeling and the attention to detail blew me away. From the design, to the staff and especially the food none of the little things are missed here. The food was fairly priced and the freshest possible in Marrakesh (much of it from their own gardens!) The staff was responsive and trustworthy and even helped me with my bags for my 3am flight!
I recommend this hotel to all my friends going to Marrakech because aside from being an 5-star hotel, it has a reputation that brings interesting and diverse guests! My week was full of meeting great people over dinner or cocktails by the pool. 10/10 could not recommend this place enough and will absolutely be staying here again

My partner and I recently spent 5 nights at Jnane Tamsna and, overall, we found it to be a beautiful oasis. The hotel itself and its grounds are beautiful - extremely tranquil, being about a 25 minute drive from the Medina. This won’t suit all guests, given the lack of proximity to other amenities, but if you are looking for rest, peace and quiet (which we were), then this is the hotel for you.
Other positives to mention are the food and the staff. We are vegetarian and we loved that there was a different 3-course set menu available every day for lunch and dinner. Every meal we had was delicious and it was especially satisfying to know that the vegetables had been grown in the hotel’s organic gardens. Again, this won’t suit everyone (for example if you prefer lots of choice) but for us this worked much better than having a menu with 1 or 2 veggie options that we had to eat on repeat (as is the case in many other hotels).
The staff are all so friendly, as are the owners Meryanne and Gary (and their beautiful dog, Smokey). We used one of the pools during our stay which was heated (much welcome in March, when the weather was warm but not super hot).
While we were visiting, the creative-in-residence did a reading of one of their short stories in the bar, which was very interesting and poignant.
A few points of constructive criticism which I hope the hotel will take onboard in the spirit of self-improvement:
1. Our check-in was a little chaotic. There is no reception / front desk and so we stood around for a while, to then be told by a member of staff that our room wasn’t ready yet, and invited to have lunch in the garden. Whilst we were hungry and therefore happy to do so, we weren’t given any information about the set menu structure of meals, eg the timing or the price. We also were not offered a tour of the grounds, so again we did not receive information about the pool / bar etc. Later during our stay, we saw other guests being given tours so it may be that the staff were just too busy when we arrived.
2. The locks to the bedroom doors are padlocks, which means they cannot be properly locked from the inside. One evening when we were in bed, a guest who was attending a private party came into the ante-chamber of our bedroom thinking it was the bathroom. I understand the old-style aesthetic, but if the doors had normal locks on them this would not have happened.
3. There is no filtered water freely available at the hotel - all water has to be purchased in bottles via the concierge. It is not cheap, and it means you have to wait for one of the concierge to see your WhatsApp, respond, and bring the water to your room (which can be time-consuming). This would be less problematic if there was a shop nearby but given the rural location of the hotel, we were dependent on obtaining water from it. The bottled water available is only in 70cl bottles - I imagine it would be more eco-friendly to have lots of water filters dotted around the grounds, for guests to fill up their own bottles / glasses.
4. We booked a private yoga lesson with the yoga teacher who works with the hotel. It was too cold to do yoga outside because it was a morning lesson (in March), and when the yoga teacher arrived she said we had to do it in the bar because she had been told that the usual room that she uses for yoga classes was occupied by guests. The bar was not a good environment for a yoga class - especially as there had been an event there the night before and it had not been cleaned, so there were lots of empty drinks and shot glasses sitting around the bar. If we had known the lesson was going to take place in the bar, we would have rescheduled to a time when we could have it in a more suitable environment. I should say the yoga teacher herself was very good - no criticism of her, but the location of the class (which was outside of her control).
Other than those small issues, we really enjoyed our stay, would recommend the hotel to others, and would consider coming back again in the future.

Jnane Tamsna is a slice of paradise where you are constantly surrounded by natural beauty that enriches your soul. The team is incredibly kind, welcoming and always there to help you with any questions you might have; I look forward to seeing them all every time I visit. One of my favourite places in the world.

My husband and I and our 3 children (ages 12, 10 and 7) have just got home after spending 5 nights at Jnane Tamsna. From the first enquiry to the final farewells, everyone and everything about JT has been wonderful. My initial enquiries were responded to promptly, with full details to all of my questions provided helpfully by Marya. I was lucky enough to be in Marrakech a few weeks before I brought my family and the concierges Oualid and Raschid were already available to respond to me via WhatsApp. Oualid took great care and time to show me around the grounds and discuss possible family excursions with me when I visited for a look around. This was a great help and Oualid is a kind, friendly and helpful person! From the moment we arrived our every need was catered for. Oualid and Raschid booked taxis and transfers, restaurants, day trips and guided tours for us and everything ran smoothly. All of the staff are friendly and looked after us so well. The children loved the swimming pools and tennis court. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners were all delicious and there were children options too. Staying at Jnane Tamsna was the holiday we needed and it fulfilled all of our needs and more!
The only reason I held back a star on the rooms is because I felt that the showers could have been better. It took a while to get hot water running and one of the showers broke on our first night, but it was fixed immediately. Honestly, this is really the only thing which didn’t exceed every expectation and the showers were perfectly adequate and did what we needed them to do!
I can wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Jnane Tamsna for a perfect Marrakech holiday and I sincerely hope to visit again soon. Thank you, Jnane Tamsna, for the wonderful memories.

This place is magical. I’ve never been to a more beautiful property. Jnane Tamsna is not your typical tourist experience, it’s not an impersonal place. It was a true oasis with outstanding hospitality, the owner goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. If you spend your time in any of the beautiful common areas, you will meet warm friendly fellow travelers, and perhaps spark a true connection with someone. I thought the food was so fresh and so beautifully prepared, it could easily rival a Michelin star restaurant. Just walking around and taking in the lush plant life and vibrant colors of the rooms and walls deeply inspired me. Every inch of this property is beautiful in an old-world lavish yet contemporary way, you feel relaxed immediately. Staff was fantastic and prompt even when I had an emergency at 3am. I didn’t want to leave but I am already planning my next trip back!

I have had the blessing of staying at Jnane Tamsna 3 times and each time has been nothing short of wonderful. The staff is very professional and polite, the food is delicious, the service is great and the combination of interior design and sprawling gardens are breathtaking. I aspire to make it a getaway every year. The serendipity of the quality people that visit the resort is also a blast each visit. I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Marrakech and say that you are in for a treat.

I’ve stayed at Jnane Tamsna now twice and each time it’s been fabulous! The staff, the graciousness of the owners MeryAnne and Gary, the peaceful, beautiful grounds and the wonderful service can’t be beat! It was the perfect place to hold our retreat!

We spent a day at this property for a “pool and lunch pass” and an activity and it was okay, however I was a bit underwhelmed. First, the lounge and living room areas are impressive. I thought the accoutrements were tasteful statements, and culturally meaningful. If you’re there when the sun sets, the golden textured exterior of the buildings and the typical Moroccan key-hole-like doorways are magical. Unfortunately that’s where my brightest impressions end. The lunch was disappointing— in terms of options, as well to taste. Shrimp and fish overcooked. The carrots and potatoes: perfect; wonderfully seasoned. Appetizer fritters were tasty. The dessert- gosh- it was apple sauce atop roasted oats void of sweetness. Lunch staff were lovely. I try to keep “what I do” elusive so as to experience places in its authenticity. As guests of a Michelin star chef in Marrakech, and as a writer of gastronomical and bar-culture experiences in Europe and North Africa, we were honestly left wanting. I wanted to love this place so much. It just didn’t meet us at our level of expectation.

We tried to book rooms there, but it was full. So we only booked the New Year's Eve dinner. The party was over four locations, each with a theme, a type of food and a special music. Usually people pair food with wine, here it was with music! My little group of friends from Paris and Milan were amazed. We have so often been to NYE party where you sit for hours at the same table, this was not the case. When we ended up sitting for dinner, the food was also very good. The evening was enchanting and had the best vibes from the beginning to the end. Three days later, I went back to visit a room and it is for sure a hotel where we will come back at staying guests. The gardens are superb, the design brilliantly looks like a house and not a hotel. A true gem this place !

Jnane Tamsna is my cherished haven in Marrakech, a place I’ve frequented for years, and it never fails to amaze me. The design is an artful symphony, marrying tradition with modern elegance, creating an ambiance that’s both soothing and inspiring.
The culinary experience is a feast for the senses, where each dish tells a story of Moroccan culture and flavors. The staff, with their genuine warmth and hospitality, have become like an extended family to me, always ready to ensure every moment is delightful.
But what truly makes Jnane Tamsna exceptional is the community it fosters. It’s a place where wonderful souls converge, creating a vibrant tapestry of connections and friendships. Thank you for consistently offering an unparalleled retreat that feels like home, yet continues to surprise and delight me with its magic.”

What a pleasure it was to stay at Jnane Tamsna! As you can see from the pictures, it is a stunning property. The architecture, decor, design, and grounds are just breathtaking! Everything is crafted with care and attention to detail. It was the perfect writer's getaway, full of Moroccan inspiration, books incorporated into the design/decor at every turn, and countless quiet & beautiful spaces to write and create. And on top of all that, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and will help you coordinate whatever you need during the stay. A lovely experience through and through!

It’s beautiful at night, but it’s not a 5-star hotel, even by Moroccan standards.

I had the great pleasure of staying at the Jnane Tamsna as part of an incredible creative writing retreat. What a delightful and magical place to stimulate the senses. Every room in the hotel is bold and dramatic, decorated in traditional Moroccan style with plenty of color and texture. An oasis of privacy and intimacy, I felt like I was a guest at someone's private home. The best part of my stay was the evening meals served outdoors in different parts of the magical gardens. The staff made every meal feel like a special event! Worth mentioning - amazing beds and shower, extremely friendly staff, beautiful swimming pools, and the vegetables grown in the gardens on the property were absolutely delicious.

Jnane Tamsna is an absolutely WONDERFUL place to stay during your visit to Marrakech! The hotel grounds and its environs are absolutely stunning. The architectural design is beautiful as are the gardens. The decor has an old world elegance in every detail - from the beds, furniture and linens to the table settings and artwork in guest rooms and shared public spaces. Evenings at the hotel are pure magic - with candles and oil lamps everywhere, creating a glow and ambience that I'll never forget. I often felt I had landed in a Moroccan dream. I so enjoyed my stay, and the wonderful people that I met over absolutely delicious and well-prepared meals. The service was wonderful - everyone went the extra mile to make sure I had what I needed, which included accommodating my dietary needs. I stayed in a quiet and lovely garden twin room with a very comfortable bed and wonderful huge shower. I most definitely will return, and highly recommend this as a place to stay. Do not hesitate to book a room!

I came to Jnane Tamsna for the wedding of a good friend. During the wedding, I stayed in a riad in the Medina but I realized the moment I stepped onto Jnane Tamsna’s grounds for the first time that I absolutely had to spend a few nights at this magical hotel. My suspicion was confirmed over the course of the 3 days of the wedding, which was completely magical. From the delicious opening night meal to the massive, gorgeous wedding table to the Dakka musicians who danced us to our tables to the fire dancers and the all night dance party, all the way to the Sunday pool party that capped off the event, everything was spectacular.
Now, onto my time staying at Jnane Tamsna after the wedding.
What’s so uniquely incredible about Jnane Tamsna, I think, is the freedom. The staff and the entire atmosphere of the hotel feels more like home than anywhere I have ever stayed. In the mornings I would wander the gorgeous, luscious gardens. In the afternoons I would swim in whichever of the 4 pools took my fancy. At nights I would sit by the fireplace, reading, writing and sipping on one of the incredible infused cocktails that they create on prem (I highly recommend the saffron whiskey sour - or the lavender infused gin cocktail for hot days and non whiskey drinkers). I discovered during my stay that there was a writer’s workshop run by the wonderful Silk Road Slippers with the Booker award-winning Shehan Karunatilaka as a special guest the following week. The opportunity seemed too serendipitous to pass up so, although I had planned to travel around Morocco, I wound up visiting only Essaouira and a friend in Marseille before returning for the workshop at Jnane Tamsna. It was an incredible event during which I learned so much and met so many wonderful writers and I will be forever grateful that they allowed me to join at such short notice.
I had the great fortune of meeting the owner, Meryanne, and her daughter Thaïs at the wedding - but I realized during my stay that I would have met them at the hotel anyhow, at lunch or by the pool or on the tennis court. It was clear to me, when I met Meryanne and Thaïs, that the essence of Jnane Tamsna springs forth from them - from their warmth, their intelleigence, their wisdom, taste and dependability.
I should also mention Gary, the sweet and brilliant husband of Meryanne and father of Thaïs. It is in his garden that the vegetables in the meals at Jnane Tamsna are grown - it quite literally does not get any more fresh, or farm to table, than that.
The hotel is located in the Palmeraie, about 20 minutes from the Medina. Having stayed both in the Medina and in the Palmeraie, I can say forsure that all you want to experience in the old town and in central Marrakech can be experienced by day and eve - you’re better off spending your nights in a relaxing, open environment. And the staff at Jnane Tamsna are happy to arrange taxis whenever you need them.
I couldn’t recommend a hotel more highly and absolutely than I do this incredible place.

It was a magical getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city and we did not want to leave.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were so attentive and the interiors and grounds are simply beautiful.
We had a choice of 5 pools to choose from and were able to spend the day uninterrupted with a pool to ourselves surrounded by lush gardens.
