A sort of "Moroccan Woodstock" and an opportunity to introduce the world to Gnaoua music and the culture it permeates.
This iconic festival brings together the best Gnaouis artists and maâlems, and also welcomes jazz musicians. The medina of Essaouira, where it was born, comes alive for several days to the heady rhythms of this sub-Saharan-influenced music. The whole Gnaoua soul is poured out here, to the delight of a cosmopolitan audience. The city is decked out with giant screens and stages dotted around the medina, and the concerts are in full swing, with some moments of pure magic.
