BAB DOUKKALA MOSQUE
Bab Doukkala mosque, with its Koranic school and hammam, the only vestige of the many constructions undertaken in the area
Built in 1558 by the mother of Sultan Ahmed el-Mansur (the builder, among other works, of the Saadian tombs), this mosque is the only remnant of the many constructions undertaken by the mother of the Golden One. Lalla Messaouda, protector of arts and letters and passionate about architecture, undertook in the north of the medina the construction of many fondouks, which have now disappeared. A Koranic school and a hammam are annexed to the mosque, opposite the Sidi el-Hassan fountain, named after one of the artists whose patron she was.
