These seven massive dry-stone towers, topped by an olive tree, pay homage to the city's patron saints. The group of 7 more or less famous saints includes Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Cadi Ayad who gave his name to the university, Sidi ben Abbès, Sidi Slimane el Jazouli, Sidi Abdelazid Tebaa, Abdellah el Ghazouani and Imane Souheili. Their tombs are scattered throughout the medina, and a pilgrimage is held every year, the ziara, which reminds us that the sacred is the driving force behind the city.
