KOUBBA EL-BA'ADIYNE
Unique vestige of the Almoravid epic with terrace, featuring sides pierced by 5 horseshoe arches topped by lobed arches
The koubba El-Ba'Adiyne, raised by archaeologists in 1948, is the only remnant of the Almoravid epic. It is a dome of the 12th century, whose foundations are lower than street level. One must therefore go down into a pit to discover the building housing a stone ablution basin. The sides of the dome are pierced with five horseshoe arches surmounted by lobed arches. A terrace flanked by a balustrade supports the dome decorated with raised chevrons and arcatures interlaced around a seven-pointed star.
