A landmark for the caravaneers of yesteryear and for today's visitors, the Almohad mosque stretches its 77 metres of delicacy towards the sky.

For nine centuries, this masterpiece of Hispano-Moorish art has dominated the Red City. When the city was taken by the Almohads in 1147, Sultan Abd el-Moumen undertook to re-establish a firm doctrine of Islam and to endow his capital with a mosque symbolizing these values. But soon after the inauguration, it was realized that the mosque did not point to Mecca! He ordered its destruction and began the construction of the one that watches over Marrakech today. The Koutoubia owes its name to the book souk that once stood at its feet.

J’adore la Koutoubia car c’est mon point de repère pour me diriger à Marrakech, j’aime entendre l’appel de la prière, néanmoins comme quasi toutes les mosquées elle ne se visite pas, néanmoins une balade autour d’elle et dans son parc est fort sympathique

Le minaret qui est très haut vous servira de repère lors de vos déplacements à Marrakech (c'est leur "tour eiffel"), sinon très photogénique, cet endroit vous ravira au coucher de soleil c'est magnifique et y joindre le parc attenant un plus.
