CHROB OR CHOUF FOUNTAIN
Public fountain with ornate canopy, giving free access to pilgrims and travellers wishing to drink
Just beyond the entrance to a three-hundred-year-old fondouk housing interesting collections of antiques, stands the Echrob and chouf fountain, meaning "wood" and "admire" respectively. When pilgrims took a drink from this public fountain, whose narrow coping gives access to a tap dispensing its water, they had to raise their heads and there... they saw the fountain niche, richly carved in cedar wood, sheltered by a canopy adorned with stucco stalactites and covered with green tiles. "Wood and admire, God's alms to mankind...".
