BAB TAGHZOUT
The original Almoravid gateway or Bab Taghzout, in a less touristy district, is a powerful defensive vestige in Marrakech
This door of Almoravid origin, once marked the northern entrance to Marrakech. Nowadays it is enclosed within its current walls, Bab Taghzout is a powerful vestige of its defences and the testimony of its expansion. Its sober decoration expresses well the spirit that animated the founders of the city. From there, it is possible to go back down towards the medina by following the Dar Saboun street, which will lead you straight to the Ben Youssef mosque. This district, not very touristy, seems to live outside the frantic rhythm of the souks and the city centre.
