MELLAH DISTRICT
Mellah district, home to 3 covered souks, including the clothing and fabric souk, the jewelry souk and the spice souk
As early as 1558, the Jewish population of Marrakech was gathered in this 18-hectare neighborhood by order of the Saadian Sultan Moulay Abdallah, who was not kidding about mixing populations and religions. Today, a small Jewish community of about 200 people still lives there in good harmony with its Muslim neighbors. It is possible to visit the Mellah synagogue and its cemetery. Three covered souks are held in the Mellah: the spice souk, the fabric souk and the jewelry souk. About sixty merchants work mainly with gold.

The ratings and reviews below reflect the subjective opinions of members and not the opinion of The Little Witty.
Attention, cependant: quartier mal fréquenté et dangereux de nuit pour les personnes seules, car désert et mal surveillé. Les habitants m’ont prévenue, car je suis une femme et je suis partie en voyage en solo.
