A carpenters' souk, amid the scent of cedar wood, making skewer handles and table legs
The narrow stalls are full of hilarious kids who will amaze you with the precision and meticulousness of their work. It is in the carpenters' souk that most of the wooden pieces sold in the new town or in the wood souk are made. Amidst the scents of cedar or olive wood, they make skewer handles, table legs or moucharabiehs, with an art that borders on goldsmithing, using only a coarse bow or a rudimentary slicer from another century. A true open-air museum.
