CARPENTERS' SOUK
A carpenters' souk, amid the scent of cedar wood, making skewer handles and table legs
The stalls are filled with kids working on the floor, who will amaze you with the precision and meticulousness of their gestures. The carpenters' souk is where most of the wooden pieces sold in the new town or in the wood souk are made. Amid the scent of cedar and olive wood, skewer handles, table legs and moucharabiehs are crafted with an art that borders on goldsmithing, using only a crude bow or a rudimentary slicer from another century. A veritable open-air museum!
