Site to find an underground river source that flows into a lake to form eye-like wells.
This is the source of an underground river that flows into Lake Caburgua, forming eye-like wells. The water is a sumptuous shade of blue and green. 5 km away lies volcanic Lake Caburgua, with its warm waters surrounded by wooded hills. The black-sand beach is congested in summer (campsites, restaurants, etc.), but you can walk about 3 km around the lake (left-hand side) to a white-sand beach (a geological curiosity, due to crystalline rocks), also very popular in summer, where you can camp or stay in more comfortable hosterías. Avoid swimming, however. This beach is also accessible by car (please note that parking is not free). It's a lovely walk for the whole family: take photos, relax and take your time. From the Refugio Playa Blanca, a trail leads into the 118.2-hectare Namuncahue protected area, a distance of around 8.5 km to the base camp. Here, you can admire superb araucaria forests. A guardaparque will then have to accompany you to a fascinating and spectacular lookout over the lakes and volcanoes of the region (only about 4 km away, but beware, it's not all flat). Note also that these "eyes" are on two different private properties. Prefer the "Parque Ojos del Caburgua" option, which offers a prettier panorama.
