CERRO TORRE
Cerro Torre, 3,102 m high, in Los Glaciaires National Park, technically more difficult to climb
The Fitz Roy takes the lead but according to specialists, the Cerro Torre (3,102 m) is technically much more difficult to climb. Known for his invincibility, he was finally defeated by his west side in 1974 by Italy's Casimiro Ferrari. The 800 metres of its granite peak, the harsh weather conditions and an approach walk strewn with pitfalls have long given Cerro Torre the status of the most difficult mountain to climb in the world. Werner Herzog's film Cerro Torre, le cri de la roche (1991) shows how difficult this is.
