Pico das Agulhas Negras, or Pic des Aiguilles Noires in French, rises to almost 2,900m. It's undoubtedly one of the must-do hikes in Itatiaia Park. It's here that we become fully aware of the potential of mountain ecotourism in Brazil, just a few hours' drive from Rio de Janeiro. The climb to the summit is fairly arduous, but it offers fabulous views of Brazil's three most populous states: Rio (you can see Guanabara Bay in the distance on a clear day), São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
