For 88 years, every 31 December, the march race of São Sylvestre in São Paulo is taking place. An event that counts with the massive participation of national and foreign athletes. The course and the details of the race have evolved over the years. Since a first change of schedule in 1989, in 2012 it took place for the first time in the morning, a change to avoid conflicts with the programming of the réveillon on Avenue Paulista. Unfortunately, during its creation in 1924 by journalist Casper Libero, inspired by a Night race in Paris, the idea was precisely a festive event, together with the new year. In the past, the sporting event included the participation of 15 000 registered (only Brazilians up to 1945) and began at midnight. Today more than 25 000 runners participate.
